Elder Alvin Thorne Jr. was born on November 1, 1956, the only son of Alvin Thorne, Sr. and Coatney S. Bullock-Thorne in Washington DC. He is educated by the District of Columbia Public School System. He acquired his credentials as Boiler Engineer from the National Association of Power Engineers, Alexandria, VA. He currently holds a 3rd Class Engineers License.

Pastor Thorne met and married the former Kathy Jones in June of 1980 and out of this union were born 3 children; Michelle, Marcus, and Melanie. He was also the adoptive father of 3 siblings, Charlene, Marquise, and Diamond. Pastor Thorne is the grandfather of 2.

Pastor Thorne accepted the Lord as his personal savior in 1979 and joined Mount Zion Pentecostal UHC in Washington DC, where Elder James H. Johnson was the Pastor. Elder Thorne is currently ordained in the United Holy Church of America, Northern District.

In 1993, Pastor Thorne established the Faith Bible Christian Center Church in Franklinton, NC. He conducted bible studies and services there in the church for 8 years until God called him back to the Washington DC area. The church grew mightily and many souls were saved and delivered by the power of the spoken Word. Also, because of their musical abilities, Pastor and Sister Thorne conducted various music and choir workshops throughout the North Carolina region that were very successful.

Pastor Thorne became the interim-pastor of McKinney's Memorial in 2007  and was installed as Pastor in September of 2008. Under his leadership  the church has been guided into a new era of Kingdom Building. Pastor Thorne has also embraced his community by providing a clothes drives, fish frys, and other Community Outreach events (in which one was held during the 2015 Baltimore Uprising), to name a few.

On March 1, 2018, God, in His infinite wisdom, called Pastor Alvin Thorne, Jr. home to receive his reward in heaven.

Pastor Thorne loved the Lord and was a Man of God called according to the purpose of the gospel. His desired is to meet people wherever they were on their spiritual journey and to help them succeed as true followers of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Thorne was a true blessing to McKinney's Memorial Holiness Church and will be truly missed.
